China releases four EV charging standards
The Standardization Administration of China approved and issued four sections of theElectric Vehicle Charging Interface and Communication Protocol Standards (theStandards) on December 22 and they will come into force as of March 1, 2012,Economic Observer reported.
Among the four sections, three are standards on EV conductive charging system, regulating general conditions and AC/DC charging interface. The rest one is on communication protocol between off-board conductive charger and battery management system.
At an earlier symposium with regard to charging standards in Beijing held by Daimler-Benz and BMW, Ralf Noha, an engineer from Daimler-Benz, said topology and communication protocol are of more importance than interface and need to be consistent. Otherwise it will lead to high R&D cost if the communication protocol is not unified and then carmakers have to develop different technologies based on accorded standards.
